On reading last week's letters page it looks like the local district council are being heavily criticised for the Tigers most recent demise.
I would like to ask the current Worksop Town Football Club board two pertinent questions:
1. The lease with Bassetlaw Council for Sandy Lane was originally in the ownership of Worksop Town Football Club? Yes or no?
2. Mr. Raymond arrived in tow
n in 2003 on his bandwagon and linked up with the football club.
He stated he was planning to build a new stadium on Kilton Forest etc etc, shortly after the football club board then agreed to sign the lease over to Mr Raymond’s company 1861Leisure.
John Hepworth, Worksop Town Football Club’s current chairman, was one of the company directors of 1861 at the time, correct? Yes or no?
If this is the case, which I believe it is, then please don’t criticise the council too much for the current debacle, when it appears that as soon as Mr Raymond and his fellow 1861 directors flashed a bit of cash about, the board of Worksop Town Football Club turned over their rights to 1861 Leisure and are now looking to lay the blame elsewhere.
This dispute is only really affecting the loyal band of supporters who follow Worksop Town Football Club.
They are the ones yet again who are being penalised for the board’s short-sightedness and mis-management.
I think this is another example of how the people who manage our local football club have ‘cocked up’.
I would suggest internal politics, not local politics are to blame for this.
It isn’t the first time we’ve seen Worksop Town Football Club on the brink, so come on chaps, get your act together and forget the politics.
Instead, why not concentrate on the football and look to produce a team and a club this town and its loyal band of supporters can be proud of.
