All decked out with a variety of fancy dress costumes, the group, all regulars at The Boundary Inn on Worksop’s Potter Street, were getting in the right frame of mind to tackle a fun run around town to raise money for charity.
The event took place
in either 1986 or 1987, but unfortunately, no one seems to know what good cause the ‘athletes’ were supporting.
“It was the idea of the pub’s landlord at that time, Jack Lord,” said Manton resident John Bolton, who kindly sent the photograph in.
“But my memory of the run is cloudy. I just know it was a one-off on a hot day and we were well ready for a few beers when we got back. We didn’t do any more after that.”
Interestingly, one of the participants was listed as P. Stringfellow. But we are assured it wasn’t the famous night club owner and entrepreneur, Peter. This man’s name was Patrick.
In the 1980s when this line-up took to the streets, no one thought too much about being politically correct, otherwise some of the costumes could very well have caused offence to some people.
But in those days it was all about having a good time.
