Published Date: 12 September 2008
Since I started work in 1983, I have had just four weeks off work in total, one week ill and three unemployed.
However, I am starting to feel like the odd one out in this town.

Me and my wife have had to think very hard about if we can afford to have children, and yes, our choice to have two lovely children has made finances hard, but they are well worth it.

However, it seems this town is host to a generation who just have kids as they please, knowing that the state will pay for them.

It’s a way of life for them, and as I look forward to my odd days off to spend with my family, they seem to have one long glorious holiday at our expense.

They are seen every day in Town, uttering the ‘f’ word to their offspring, and in years to come they will be the next lot on benefits, shouting abuse at THEIR children.

What has happened to this town?

I often think it’s a waste of time working, but then I think no, I have more pride in myself than that.
