As a resident of Creswell I would like to respond to the letter from A. Bush, from Worksop, who has branded Creswell people as 'lowlife'.
I am disgusted at this sweeping generalisation – I certainly do not appreciate being labelled as a lowlife, and incidentally, neither am I a single mother.

I do agree somewhat that colliery closures have led to the demise of mining villages, and t
his is why regeneration programmes now exist.

Unfortunately these issues are not resolved in the short term and I have no desire to participate in political debate.

However, Mr Bush asked "What kind of society do we live in?"

Well obviously, based upon his assumptions about other people, we live in a society where some individuals (such as Mr Bush) judge people by their residence or their marital status!

Neither of the aforementioned should hold any relevence to a person's character or indeed their position in our society.

What happened to respecting people as individuals?.

I am pleased that Mr Bush has been educated about our archaeological site, but saddened that he has failed to evolve any further from the Neanderthal man with regard to his outdated, discriminating attitude.

A lesson in humanity would have been more beneficial to him than his recent historical experience!

Mr A. Bush is very short sighted. Having lived in Whitwell for 19 years, we moved into a lovely part of Creswell, surrounded by lovely people.

The work of people who are fighting to regenerate the village are to be applauded. Every place has lowlife, including Worksop.

Politics do not come into it.

HOW DARE Mr A. Bush say Creswell is a dump? It is no such thing.

Our village is better now than it has been for many years. There have been several million pounds spent on it over the last 10 years, and it shows.... and it has also won the Calor best village award twice.

Did Mr Bush see the restored Model Village? Or the Skinner Street estate? Or the Wood Avenue estate?

Or the lovely flower baskets hanging from every lamppost on Elmton Road?

YES, Creswell has its fair share of single parents and lowlife? Doesn’t Worksop?

I venture into Worksop every week to meet my daughter for lunch and I am horrified by the sights in Worksop town centre.

I would suggest that Mr A. Bush considers his own community before he slags off a neighbouring one.

EDITOR’S NOTE: These are just a small selection of the many letters and emails from Creswell readers responding to Mr Bush’s letter last week.
