I usually ignore the ramblings of John Mann as he is not my MP but the headline on his column the other week about identity cards caught my eye.
I see he is toeing the party line in thinking they will be the best thing since sliced bread and we should embrace them with open arms. I beg to differ for the following reasons:-

This Government has proved on numerous occasions they can’t be trusted to keep our data safe. Fraudsters can copy a passport, why not an identity card?

Illegal terrorists etc will get a forged one if they want one, just like passports.

Anyone who gets married, a relative of anyone who dies or changes address etc will be legally bound to tell the authorities or pay a fine and pay for a new card.

The Government knows everything they need to know about an adult just by using their National Insurance number.

A private company is poised to make millions out of them, then lose the data. Then I expect they will tell us all they need to be re-issued at further cost.
