WORKSOP travelled to Barnsley on Saturday to take on a youthful team in a friendly and came away with their first defeat of the season.

From the kick-off Worksop showed good forward strength, dominating the early exchanges.

This early pressure resulted in A. Hopkinson crashing over for his second try in as many games.

From the restart Barnsley used their young pacey backs well and it wasn't long before they crossed the line to tie the score at 5-5.

Shortly after, more pressure from the home side backs resulted in a penalty which was converted to give the hosts an 8-5 lead.

The rest of the half was dominated by Worksop who camped themselves in Barnsley's 22 but good defence saw the home side go into half time leading 8-5.

The second half was real end-to-end stuff with both teams attacking from their own try lines time after time, only for last gasp tackles to deny each team.

Midway through the half Worksop gained the upper hand and with another good surge by the forwards, scored another try through J. Poxon.

For the remainder of the half, Worksop defended gallantly but with their legs tiring Barnsley's backs had the last laugh and scored a well worked try in the corner to make the final score 15-10.

Man of the match went to M. Nunn for some great counter attacking.
