WHITWELL'S Ian Bennett has signed a new one-year deal with Championship outfit Sheffield United.
The contract comes as reward for his solid service to the club over the last two years as back-up to number one stopper Paddy Kenny.
Bennett, whose family still live in Whitwell, said: "I'm really pleased to be staying and I aim to provide real competition for Paddy as well as back-up because I felt that I did well last year when I came in."

There were calls from some sections of the Bramall Lane faithful last year that Bennett should be a serious contender to Kenny's number one jersey.
Blades boss Kevin Blackwell was more than happy to put his trust in Bennett for another season.

He said: "Benno is a top professional who is very reliable and did ever so well when he came in for several important games last season."
Blackwell is also due to take another look at Trinidad and Tobago keeper Jan Michael Williams, who was plying his trade with White Star Woluwe – one of the Blades' foreign interests – in Belgium last season.
