SNOOKER enthusiasts will soon be all cued up – as North Notts Community Arena and snooker coach Darren Presgrave are set to open a Junior Snooker Academy.
The academy, the first of its kind in Worksop, will open its doors at 2pm on Saturday 2nd August.

The sessions will last for two hours and prices will initially be £2 per player.

Centre manager Nigel Turner said he is enthusiastic about the new academy, and hopes that local people will become involved.

He said: "It's now six months since we first began working with Darren and he has brought a new, professional approach to snooker at the arena."

"His personal coaching sessions have proven very popular, with clients travelling from as far afield as Milton Keynes to experience his expertise."

During his initial six month period, Darren has been heavily involved in coaching 13-year-old snooker prodigy Ashley Carty.

"Ashley has been surprising many junior players in the Sheffield tournaments with his undoubted ability, and we are hoping he will go on to greater things," said Nigel.

"We are hoping that the academy will be a great training ground for other young local talent."

Since North Notts Community Leisure took over the centre two years ago, all the snooker tables have been refurbished to the highest standard and a new match table – The Buckingham, which hosted the 1980 World Professional Billiards Final – has been introduced.

All the work has been carried out by Gainsborough businessman Ted Roberts and his snooker company Elston and Hopkins.

For further information on the academy or to reserve a place call the arena on 01909 480164.

There re no age or ability restrictions other than being able to reach the table.
