Published Date: 27 November 2008
LAST Saturday saw St Joseph AC's presentation evening and there was a certain poignancy to proceedings, with the recent passing of founder member Eunice.
On the evening Eunice's family presented a special commemorative trophy to winner of the canal match Tommy Davenport, in memory of her favorite venue, which was the Chesterfield Canal around the Retford area.

Eunice, who was a founder member of t
he Worksop Angleresses and is sadly missed by all who knew her, will be remembered through this annual canal shield that will be competed for by club members.

The competition for the club's aggregate trophy was an extremely close run affair this year with two members, Chris Davenport and Stuart Lilley, finishing on equal points, but a back count of total weight caught over the season saw Stuart lift the trophy.

At the time of writing the weather is looking favorable for the annual Worksop Guardian Invitation beach match which is to be held tomorrow (Sat) at Hornsea. Will competitors contact Roger on the above number if there is any major change in weather conditions.

We have unconfirmed reports of some decent sized predators making an appearance on the Worksop and District Association's day ticket water at Torksey arm on the tidal Trent where some decent pike are apparently falling to dead baits.

Also we have reports of pike being caught on the Station Hotel's length of the Chesterfield Canal in the Marina Basin. We would like to ask any predator hunters to report any catches of significance so we can pass on the information to other anglers.

The Grafton AA is holding a permit holders' match this Sunday (30th) on their stretch of the Chesterfield Canal. The draw will take place at the Lockkeeper car park at 9am with the fishing to take place 10am-3pm.

COMMERCIAL ROUND UP

WE start this week at Lodge Farm Fishery where the Likely Lads tackled the Long Island Pond on Tuesday. Results were: 1st Andy Hill, peg 102, 52lb 10oz, on bomb fished meat also meat on the long pole, 2nd Ian Mellish, peg 93, 50lb 3oz, pole fished pellet, 3rd Dave Lane, peg 77, 36lb 8oz, pole and pellet.

Thursday's invitational match was fished on Lily Pond with regular visitor John Bleakley taking the honors with 14lb 10oz from peg 50 employing bomb fished meat, with Chris Line taking the runners up spot from peg 67 with 13lb, and filling the frame was Nigel Hadfield from peg 71 with 10lb 13oz.

Saturday's Open was fished on Long Island with John Bleakley completing a double, this time from peg 98 with 29lb 7oz with bomb fished meat being the favored method.

Second place belonged to Dave phantom from peg 96 with 29lb 3oz, with third place being taken by R. Booth with 11lb 3oz from peg 102.
Bill informs us that the Field and Signal ponds are responding to wag and mag in the deep water pegs, but start on the deck and gradually come in the water to find the fish.

Down the road at Ranskill the Lakeside Fishery is still producing good match weights of silver fish.

Wednesday's Open match saw Mark Holmes take a winning net of 31lb 12oz from peg 15 using the maggot feeder, with Les Richmond and Mick Donolley running a close second and third with 28lb 8oz and 28lb 5oz respectively.
