WE start this week's column with a reminder of the charity match being held in aid of the air ambulance at Daiwa Hallcroft on Saturday 18th October, organised in the memory of Steve Atkinson by good friends Mark and Louise Upton who come from Misterton.
The fishing will take place on the Bridge pool with the draw at 8am, the start commencing at 9.30am and the final whistle being blown at 3.30pm with an entry fee of £10.
There will be a raffle held, as well as various prizes awarded for different
categories including biggest fish and section winners as well as an optional pool on the day.
Anyone interested in entering this event can contact Louise or Mark on 01427 891654 or 07886 427062.
On Saturday 27th September on Sandhill Lake, possibly the last match in the British Gas AC 35-year history took place, unless a new secretary can be found.
After his sterling efforts in the seat, Mick Pogson has decided to step down, and it was rather fitting that Mick claimed the honours in the last match with a weight of 28lb 13oz of bream caught on the ground bait feeder.
Saturday saw the NJAA challenge fished on the Chesterfield canal around the Retford area, with Worksop's intermediates and juniors coming a creditable fourth in their respective categories.
The water was donated by Worksop & DAA and was excellently organised by Neil Nicolson and his team of helpers, and a special thank you to everyone at the Hop Pole Hotel for their kind hospitality at the draw and presentation.
Mick's son Steve made it a family affair by winning both the midweek and Saturday aggregate trophies.
As mentioned in a previous column, the beach fishing season has finally arrived, and with this in mind the final touches have been put into place for the annual Guardian open beach match.
The event is to be held on 29th November with booking in to be again at the Marine Hotel at Hornsea with fishing from Hornsea north and south beaches, with an option to open the boundries should the entry level warrant it.
Fishing will take place between 1pm and 7pm and with high water at 5pm it gives the optimum fishing with four hours of flood and two of ebb, which will be in darkness.
Pre-match registration and further details can be got from Roger on the number at the top of column.
Ivor Jones of Worksop Piscatorials has asked us to remind members that the last match of the season is to be held on 12th (Sunday) at Clayworth, with the draw taking place at 8.30am in the car park by the boats
Finally a brief mention of a pole repair service that is being provided by Roger Parnell of Mansfield who mends breaks, cracks or split sections to a very high standard, for a fraction of the cost of a new section.
Roger can be contacted on 01623 469623 or 07759 802048 or at rogerparnell3@yahoo.co.uk or you can drop your broken section in to Gateford Angling for collection.
