Hide AdTony Stanford, prosecuting, said that Ben Cox, the nephew of Paul Cox, was following his uncle in another car immediately before the collision and within half an hour of the accident booked his uncle’s vehicle in for an MoT test later the same day.
Ben Cox then called an insurance firm and arranged temporary cover for the Renault Megane involved in the collision.
Police quickly discovered the attempt to cover up the situation and Ben Cox was arrested in early August.
Mr Stanford said: “His response was to tell police that he was not a hardened criminal.”
