A WORKSOP car thief found himself caught on camera this week and within 48 hours was banged up in the police cells for his crime.
Andrew Parkin, of Cheapside, was sentenced to 120 days in prison at Retford Magistrates' Court for stealing a sat nav from a police decoy car.

The cars, labelled capture cars, are rigged with video equipment to film anybody who attempts a theft.

At 10.54am last Wednesday, an officer on patrol in Worksop received a report from a member of the public that a car has been broken into on Beaver Place.

The car was identified as the capture car and the member of the public gave a description of the offender.

Police quickly located Parkin and arrested him.
Parkin (pictured) admitted the offence when he was shown the capture car video footage in interview.

"The capture car had only been in place 30 minutes and this case clearly demonstrates its continued effectiveness in tackling vehicle crime in Worksop," said a spokesman for Worksop Police.

Chief Inspector Glenn Harper said the quick response by police clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the capture car initiative and shows that progress is being made in tackling car crime in the area.

"It shows these thieves that they will get caught and when they do they risk a prison sentence," he said.
