CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a travellers' site on land at Oldcotes have been withdrawn.
The proposal for a site on land at Manor Farm was due to go before the Bassetlaw Council planning committee on Wednesday evening.

Council officers had recommended that the application be refused.

The site covered 11.5 hectares, which is approximately two thirds of the size of the village itself, and included 18 pitches.

371 letters of objection were received by the council in relation to the application.

Back in April, when residents along Styrrup Road were contacted about the application, many were very unhappy about the proposal.

At the time, Richard Weighill said: "This is right on our doorstep. It will mean that we have a lot more extra people in the village."

"The roads are full of farm traffic anyway which we accept because we are in a farming community, but to add to this is unacceptable."
