THREE books about the Pilgrim Fathers will soon be housed in the private library of President George W Bush.
Barry Bowles, who is deputy chairman of the Pilgrim Fathers UK Origins Association, presented the special gift to a member of the President's staff during a recent trip to The White House in Washington DC.

Mr Bowles is passionate about the 17th century settlers and very proud to spread the word of their Bassetlaw origins.

"The history of the Pilgrim Fathers is important not just to Bassetlaw but also to British, American and world history," he said.

He presented the trilogy of books by Lincolnshire author Sue Allan to Timothy Nank, a member of staff at The White House.

The personal gift, which was funded by the Pilgrim Fathers Origins Association, was deemed apt for Mr Bush as he claims to be a direct descendent of Francis Cooke, who sailed on the Mayflower and settled in Virginia.

Mr Bowles and three other representatives of the Bassetlaw Conservative Association made the research trip to the United States after they won a nationwide competition for their election campaign in 2006.
